Where are government contracts published?
By law, in public — but not in one place. Federal solicitations go on SAM.gov; every state runs its own portal; and counties, cities and school districts each publish separately. That is why a business that only watches SAM.gov never sees the local work, which is usually the most winnable.
Do I need to be certified to bid?
No. Anyone with an active SAM.gov registration and a UEI can bid on open federal work. Certifications like 8(a), SDVOSB, WOSB and HUBZone unlock contracts reserved for those categories — they widen what you can bid on, they are not a prerequisite.
How is this different from a bid alert service?
An alert tells you a notice exists and matched a keyword or a category. It does not tell you whether that solicitation is winnable for a company your size, with your certifications and your service area.
