Set-asides reserve contracts for specific kinds of small business. They're the single biggest lever a small contractor has — and most don't claim everything they qualify for.
The main ones
Small Business, 8(a), SDVOSB (service-disabled veteran-owned), WOSB (woman-owned), and HUBZone. You can qualify for more than one.
Why it decides your odds
